Cresta Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe, 4-5 July 2017
Samansco, LORENTZ Distributor Partner in Zimbabwe, conducted a successful training seminar called “Solar Water Pumping for Food Security and Disaster Relief”.
The training seminar was held on the 4th and 5th of July 2017 at Cresta Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe and focused on educating the supply chain and technical managers in Non-Governmental Organizations, Technical Educational Institutions as well as Samansco’s Partners. This event was officiated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy Development, Mr. Patson Mbiriri.
During the training, Mr. Kai Reinecke, LORENTZ Channel Manager for Africa, showed that solar water pumps can be used in a wide range of applications. Especially the use of pumps for irrigation and drinking water generated a lot of interest because Zimbabwe is driving its economy towards food security.
One of the most compelling case studies that was shared was that of an orphanage that is located in Murehwa in Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe that has managed to set up a sustainable small holder farmer scheme which has taken care of the community in that area. The orphanage initially started off their project with a LORENTZ PS1800 HR-14H pump to provide drinking water and to irrigate a small piece of land to feed the children from the orphanage and a neighbouring school.
Through the excess crop they managed to cultivate, they sold the crop to get funds that were used to extend the project. A LORENTZ PS600 Booster pump was purchased that helped them to meet their daily water requirements. The focus is on income generating projects such as growing moringa (a tea plant) for export and livestock rearing, which are supplied to a local butchery in the area.
Samansco is an official LORENTZ Distribution Partner in Zimbabwe with a relationship dating back nearly a decade. Samansco also provides customer support and training at the Harare offices for all LORENTZ product applications.
“There is clearly a significant demand for the use of renewable energy options to extract clean underground water for drinking water and for irrigation purposes. Solar energy is a reliable form, which is very cost effective. Over the past five years, Samansco has installed over 100 solar water pumping units for various organizations in the multiple sectors such as Non-Governmental Organizations, Governmental Departments, Agricultural Holdings, Corporate Customers and Private Companies and Individuals.
We feel that the event came at the right time as efforts have been undertaken to scale up the uptake of solar water pumping solutions for various applications and we are confident that LORENTZ is the best partner to work with” said Nyasha Bamhare, Chief Executive Officer at Samansco.
LORENTZ congratulate Samansco for an exceptionally well organized event.
